A SUSTAINABLE GOWN FOR MISS UNIVERSE....OUT OF PLASTIC?!?!
In December 2021, I was approached by renowned fashion photographer, Michael Creagh, to design a couture gown made from recycled plastic for Miss Universe, 2021, Andrea Meza of Mexico.

In December 2021, I was approached by renowned fashion photographer, Michael Creagh, to design a couture gown made from recycled plastic for Miss Universe, 2021, Andrea Meza of Mexico. I saw it as an opportunity to explore the infinite possibilities of sustainable fashion.
Faced with an overwhelming pile of recycled plastic sourced locally from a Brooklyn recycling facility, I had my work cut out for me. I used conventional techniques to form a bustier to Ms. Meza’s body measurements. I gradually built upon it until a truly unique ballgown emerged. (The skirt was so big, that I had to finish it outside of Creagh’s studio in the hallway).
I was honored to have this piece included as part of Ms. Meza’s final editorial shoot as reigning Miss Universe. Below are images of the dress photographed by Michael Creagh for the Miss Universe 70th Anniversary Digital photobook with IMG.
Once the photoshoot was done, the dress went back to a recycle bin leaving almost zero footprint!
